“My ceramics celebrate the joy
of life. The pieces are functional and
designed for those special occasions when everyday tableware will
just not do. I need to see forms in three dimensions and, of course,
the challenge is to interpret those forms with the tools at hand.
That is why I choose to work mainly with clay.”
Alison Palmer is always creating something new. The
ideas never seem to run out. Whether it be in earthenware, stoneware,
wood, plaster, or even a food recipe, there is always something
new just around the corner - usually whimsical, usually colorful,
and never without a certain sense of humor. After 30 years in
ceramics, Alison still gets great enjoyment out of the process
of creating new pieces. From the original idea through the technical
processes which involve making the molds to her most favorite
part - working with color, Alison is always thinking ahead and
always using her artist’s vision to constantly explore
and interpret.

"I strive to achieve a lighthearted
meld of the human and animal form. These anthropomorphic figures
are developed by throwing and altering the stoneware clay and
wood-firing them to cone 10.
The
fire and ash contribute to the spontaneous and unpredictable finish
which gives the pieces a primitive, elemental look."
